Words Have Meaning
For the purpose of our research, we refer to someone who is neurodivergent or has a mental health diagnosis using person first language. For example, person with autism or person with ADHD rather than autistic person or ADHD person. We understand the power of language and we understand and respect that there are a lot of people who prefer to describe themselves using identity first language. We made this decision to enable consistency within our study which includes a broad range of conditions. We are passionate about raising awareness on the complexity of who we design for with the goal of making our spaces inclusive. We believe, through inclusive design, that a larger part of the population will be able to make richer contributions to society. Everyone will benefit.
